MS Studies for Mothers

My name is Emily Stewart, and I am a Ph.D student in the clinical psychology program at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois.  I am in the process of collecting data for my thesis which focuses on studying mothers with multiple sclerosis and how having a mom with MS impacts child functioning.  My research project has been through NIU’s institutional review board and was accepted as exempt, meaning the study was found to do no harm to participants and it is completely anonymous.  My project is entirely online, and I have a link to the study along with recruitment information available to send out via email.  I began recruiting through the websites of two national MS organizations; however, I am having difficulty recruiting the number of participants I need for my project.

Link Between MS and Vitamin D

A 2014 study further explains how individuals with low levels of vitamin D (below 50 ) are more likely to develop new MS brain lesions and have a worse prognosis compared with those who have higher levels.

1000 units daily is the recommended dose, however it is not usually enough. Going out into the sun, without sunscreen for 30 minutes, the sun can produce that amount in only 30 minutes ! Other ways to naturally add Vitamin D are adding fatty fish, such as salmon, and more fortified products in your diet.
